Oct. 2, 2024 (Liberal, KS) – Newman University and Seward County Community College announced a partnership to bring bachelor’s degree programs to students locally in Liberal earlier this year. Courses are now underway as students begin their path to graduating with bachelor’s degrees in nursing, teaching, agribusiness or business.
“It is incredible to see students in Liberal graduating from SCCC and furthering their education with Newman University,” said Brad Bennett, president of Seward County Community College. “Giving our students the option to continue learning here on our campus to complete their degree is filling the need for many people in our community, and it is a great honor to partner with Newman University to make this possible.”
The HERE bachelor’s degree program ensures higher education is accessible and affordable for all students in Liberal. Classes are offered on flexible schedules and while many students prefer in-person learning, online options are also available. Students may also take courses at night. The Newman University team works with all students to customize their education, ensuring the program is meeting the needs of students in Liberal.
All students who have graduated or plan to graduate from Seward County Community College with an associate degree automatically qualify for a $20,000 scholarship towards course work on their bachelor’s degree through Newman University. Additionally, students who choose nursing, business or agribusiness will receive a federal Pell or state grant match. This means that all federal Pell or state grants will be matched by Newman University, up to $7,500. Additional scholarships are available for teaching majors as well.
The program already has 60 students who are currently taking bachelor’s degree courses in Southwest Kansas. Enrollment periods will continue to occur each fall and spring. Spring 2025 enrollment is now open, and students can complete the quick and free application at gcccnewman.com.
